What Is This Blog All About?

My name is Jason Kohlmeyer, and I’ve focused my legal career on Minnesota family law since 2000. Over the years, I’ve handled a wide range of cases: divorce, child custody and parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance (alimony), adoption, and post-divorce issues.

The Minnfamilylaw.com blog is where I share clear, practical information for people trying to make sense of family law, especially those here in Minnesota. Whether you’re a small business owner in the Mankato area, running a farm near Worthington that’s been in the family for generations, or simply trying to build a workable parenting schedule, it can be tough, and you have questions

I hear a LOT of the same questions:

“What happens to the house?”
“How is child support calculated in Minnesota?”
“Will spousal maintenance apply in my situation?”
“What happens to the family business or the farm?”
“How do we protect the kids and still move forward?”

I noticed something consistent: people face the same core concerns, even when their situations look totally different on paper.

I wanted a place where my clients and anyone else looking for help understanding Minnesota family law could find straightforward answers to the questions I hear almost daily.

So I built this blog to be a helpful resource, not a sales pitch. I won’t tell you to CALL NOW or YOU NEED A LAWYER! None of those legal scare tactics here.
